1980's Facts

During the 1980’s Margaret Thatcher was the British Prime Minister. There were some major key events which were occurring during the 1980’s. Britain had a population rate of 56 million people during 1981 and at the beginning of 1982 Britain was at war and the Falkland Islands were attacked by Argentina.

In 1981 on the 30th July, Diana Married Prince Charles and became Princess Diana. Furthermore another member of the royal family got married in 1986 on the 23rd July as Sarah Ferguson married Prince Andrew.

The world was becoming revolutionalised with new technology.  By 1983 the law was enforced that all cars had front seat belts in order to bring down the death rate.  Many computers were being tested in 1981 and the best sellers were the “Commodore” and the “Amstrad”. Microsoft began inventing programmes such as “Windows” in 1985 which revolutionalised the computer industry as we know it. Furthermore, another invention which was anticipated by Tim Berners-lee was the ideology of the World Wide Web in 1989.

The television industry was being improved constantly as in November 1982; Channel 4 was beginning to be broadcasted on television.  In addition, in February 1983, the television business began to air Am television programmes.

The communication industry was increasing rapidly during the 1980’s time period as “Over 50% of households now had a telephone” by 1982. Furthermore, by 1988 the mobile phone industry had a consumer boom as they had invented “digital mobile phones”.

Another key event occurring during the 1980’s time period was that there was an explosion in 1986 as the “Space Shuttle Challenger” detonated whilst lifting off resulting in seven members of staff onboard being perished.

An additional revolution in the industry was created by G. Gregory Gallico. It was the ideology of “Synthetic Skin”. This is a fantastic new invention as people who fought in the war could have the hope of having additional skin grafts to cover their facial lacerations.
