Sub Genre

One of the subcultures in the 1960’s was the Skinheads. This meant that all men shaved their heads and adorned themselves with tattoos.  Their clothing did not alter much. Their subculture was defined as wearing a Harrington Jacket, Bomber Jacket, Denim Jacket, Parkas or even Monkey Jackets. Their shoes consisted of loafers, brogues and boots. The Skinheads wore braces identified in North America as suspenders.

Another sub-genre from the Psychobilly sub culture was a scooter boy. Their style ranged from flight jackets to motorcycle and mechanic jackets. Psychobillies wore leather jackets; however they ripped off the arms which they modified with logos, revulsion images and "post-nuclear holocaust imagery".

Men wore brothel creepers to enable them to leave the brothels without the women noticing. Psychobillies defined themselves by highlighting their hair with an array of psychedelic colours and created a tall standing free hairstyle. They often wore Mohawk quiffs and the men wore pompadour hairstyles.

The Psychobilly movement was more about horror film extremists and music, however their clothes also helped to define their looks. Some of the clothes in which they wore consisted of:
  • Dr Martens
  • Ripped Bleached Jeans
  • Belts with studs incorporated onto it
  • LeatherJackets portraying "Post-nuclear Holocaust imagery".
